Presidential Trivia - This Day is History

On this day in history....

1947 - Harry Truman signs the Second Presidential Succession Act. Meaning, he changed the order of those who would become President should the Vice President be unable to succeed. It was the Senate president pro tempore and then the Speaker of the House, when Washington was President. Then it changed to two cabinet members in 1886. Truman than changed it back, but reordered it to the Speaker, then the Senate president. Some say it was because Harry was friends with the Speaker of the House at that time and not friendly with the Senate president.

1962 - Congress preserved the birthplace and property of Theodore Roosevelt. Meaning, his properties were now under the care of the National Park Service (which he created). The National Park Service also owns and maintains the birthplaces of George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, John Quincy Adams, Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, Ulysses S. Grant and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

But the Biggest thing that happened on This Day in Presidential History...

1940 - FDR nominated for an unprecedented third term! While many criticized him for even seeking it (there had been an unwritten rule about Presidents not serving more than two terms, since Washington turned down a chance at third term). But Roosevelt felt that it was his duty to serve his country with the pressures building in Europe.
