PWAers Rock!!!

I can't believe I forgot to tell you about my bible study Christmas Party. We usually get together and chit chat, eat, etc. This year we've been trying to focus on serving others. We've each come up with a service project and we've been doing those through out the fall. So, we continued that through the holiday season and decided to serve others for our Christmas Party.

Katie's aunt and uncle work at this Bible Witness Camp, working with underprivileged families. Now, I'm not quite sure of the story and how it all works, but they try to give these families something for Christmas. It will probably be the only gift that they receive. Most of the stuff comes from one family, who have found this way to serve their fellow man. From what I heard, that family lives in Michigan and sends the stuff all the way to the camp for delivery.

When we got there there were several tables filled with goodies for the kids (all ages) and adults. Plus several chairs were occupied by dolls, cars scattered over the piano and a huge box full of basketballs. We were each assigned an age group (I started with preschool boys and then moved on to high school girls) and filled garbage bags with stuff appropriate for them. Aunt Mary said it usually takes her several days to get this done, and we had it done in one night. I wasn't keeping an eye on the clock, so I'm not sure how long it actually took us, but that doesn't matter.

I was so humbled to be a part of giving Christmas to needy children and their parents. All I gave them was my time...and it seems so insignificant. I wish I was able to do more.

You have no idea who I am--I found your blog link from the Stonesifers link, but my husband and I used to help out at Bible Witness Camp. We were actually married there, Reverand Williams was one of the pastors for our ceremony, Mary was our photographer and our third child is named after Rev Williams.

Just thought it was neat that a blog of a perfect stranger, mentioned one of my favorite places!!!

Well, MommyKendra, it's a small world after all. I grew up in the Nazarene church and have always thought that just the Naz world was small. I'm quickly learning that it's not just that denomination. I only met Mary while I was there. Did you get married in the chapel? I saw it while we were leaving and thought it was a charming little building. How do you know the Stonesifers? Val was my roommate in college.

It was great to hear from you.

My husband grew up with Shawn and met Val through a church camp and we all went to Olivet together (Jon and I graduated 2000 and Shawn/Val were a couple of years behind us).

We now all live in the same city, which is near Sterling (I noticed your husband is from there). My brother-in-law is the music pastor at Sterling Church of the Nazarene.

We did get married in the white chapel. It is a very charming little building!
