Instead of sending a lengthy newsletter with my Christmas cards (which would have been looked at once, and thrown away), I thought I would post it here. I'll try to keep it short and sweet.
The Kuehls - Version 2008
The beginning of the New Year was spent working and quizzing. Ryan is still working at the Resolve Center (it's a substance abuse clinic for teenage boys). I was happily working at the high school, with a student who had Cerebral Palsy, and unhappily working at the spa. I was just not cut out to work as a receptionist/cleaning lady. We occupied our time with the teen Bible quiz team at our church. Those kids were, and still are, awesome.
I was definitely ready for the warm temperatures that come with spring. And for a vacation. My uncle Chet let us use some of his frequent flier miles to go to Kansas City for Spring Break. I have family that lives there and hadn't seen them in a while. We celebrated our 4th anniversary when we got back. And celebrated the fact that I got a new part-time job. I started working in the afternoons at Stepping Stone Learning Center. It's a daycare and I'm more suited to teaching kids than organizing an office. While some of the kids drive me crazy, it's a great job.
Summer was spent teaching and learning for me. I worked longer hours at the daycare. I also started taking classes. For those of you who don't know, when I had graduated from Olivet, I didn't think I wanted to teach, so I didn't get my teaching certificate. Now that I want it, they've changed the program. I now have to take several classes. My first class was a directed study class and I had to write 7 papers in 1 month. Then I took my first class at Kankakee Community College. That was an experience and a half. I was not used to professors cussing and making racial comments. But, I got straight A's and I'm done with that class.
Fall is always a fun time for me. The new school year starts and that means...shopping. New clothes, new school supplies... I love it! I started my second year at BBCHS as a teacher aide. I work with an English teacher for the first 2 hours and then for the next 3 I'm in the Resource Room. I took another class at KCC, with a much better professor. I think that it was the perfect time to take an Economics class. It helped me understand what was going on in our economy, the reasons why we are in such a mess, and compare economic plans of the Presidential canidates. Ryan and I are also helping out with the quiz team again. We are studing the book of Luke (my favorite gospel) and our team uniform is scrubs, since Luke was a doctor.
While 2008 was an interesting year and God has blessed us this year, I'm ready for 2009. I'm excited to see what God has in store for us and for you as well. Happy New Year!!
